F is for Fremont

Yesterday was a fantastic day! The sun was shining and the weather was amazing. There was not a single grey cloud in the sky.

We headed out to Fremont for our F activity. Fremont is by far my favorite Seattle neighborhood. It is hip, crazy, and completely young feeling. This little town proclaims that it is the center of the universe, and they have a sign to prove it!
If you are ever in Seattle, this bohemian like neighborhood is a must see. Fremont is known for some of their crazy statues and street art. So we began our foot tour by starting at Troll Ave and seeing the famous Fremont Troll. The troll is hidden underneath the Aurora bridge and this statue is MASSIVE. It clenches an actual Volkswagen Bug as if he had just swiped it of the bridge. Our next stop was at the Waiting for the Interurban. This statue depicts six commuter and a dog waiting for their street cart. On a regular bases, people are known to dress them up in hats, clothes, and other funny props. Yesterday they were dressed up in t-shirts that said "Will you go to prom with me?"

Our last stop was at the rocket. It is attached to a side of a building and looks like it is about to take off at any moment! (ok not really)

My only regret is that we didn't get to see the statue of Lenin. Not John Lenin, but Vladimir Illych Lenin. It is the largest statue of Lenin in the United States. Crazy! Who would have ever thought?!

Wow, how fun is that. When you were talking to us about the Fremont Troll, I was imagining a tiny thing-but that is pretty cool. I'll have to take Richard and go see it. :)
